Upon their return to Toronto in 1985, Alan Anton and Michael Timmins rented a house, insulated the tiny garage, and, with younger brother Pete Timmins sitting in on drums, began exploring a new musical direction. Alan Anton moved to Berlin and Michael Timmins returned to New York City. Germinal broke up after three years in autumn of 1984. Among those who were to influence Michael Timmins and Alan Anton were jazz musicians Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, along with the sound of early blues musicians Lightnin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Bukka White, and Robert Johnson. But for the audience, it was quite a chore." In London, they developed journeyman skills as musicians, and expanded their knowledge of music history - Michael Timmins worked in a record store for a year to make ends meet while with Germinal. The music newspaper New Musical Express said Germinal "ranks among the most innovative and aggressive sounds to emerge from the independent scene this year." Alan Anton and Michael Timmins had a somewhat different take, saying, "It was the ultimate release for us. Germinal released two studio albums: Germinal 1 (1983) and Din (1984). The members – Michael Timmins on guitar, Alan Anton on bass, a drummer, and saxophonist, played whatever they wished on their instruments at the same time. When Hunger Project disbanded, Alan Anton and Michael Timmins remained in London and started an improvisational band named Germinal. After that, Hunger Project moved to the United Kingdom, where they toured for three months and released the single "The Same Inside/Assembly" on their independent label, Latent Recordings. In early 1981, the Hunger Project embarked on a multi-city tour of the United States. They moved to Manhattan's Lower East Side and performed at a variety of clubs. In 1979, influenced by post-punk bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees and Joy Division, they recruited drummer Geoff Railton and vocalist Liza Dawson-Whisker, and formed Hunger Project in Toronto. History Early history Īlan Anton and Michael Timmins, lifelong friends who met in kindergarten, formed their first band in high school. Ĭowboy Junkies have gone on to record 16 studio albums and five live albums, with tour dates booked into 2023. The Los Angeles Times named the recording one of the 10 best albums of 1988. Their sound, again using the ambisonic microphone, and their mix of blues, country, folk, rock and jazz earned them both critical attention and a strong fan base. The band gained wide recognition with their second studio album, The Trinity Session (1988), recorded in 1987 at Toronto's Church of the Holy Trinity. The band line-up has never changed since, although they use several guest musicians on many of their studio albums, including multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird who has performed on every album except the first.Ĭowboy Junkies' 1986 debut studio album, produced by Canadian producer Peter Moore, was the blues-inspired Whites Off Earth Now!!, recorded in the family garage using a single ambisonic microphone. John Timmins was a member of the band but left the group before the recording of their debut studio album. The three Timminses are siblings, and Anton worked with Michael Timmins during their first couple of bands. Cowboy Junkies are an alternative country and folk rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1985 by Alan Anton (bassist), Michael Timmins (songwriter, guitarist), Peter Timmins (drummer) and Margo Timmins (vocalist).

You can remember this function because the Oculomotor nerve starts with the letter "O" for eye "O"pening. Eyelid Elevation Cranial Nerve III also controls the ability to open the eyelid. CN IV is uncommon, however, difficulty seeing when walking down the stairs is a potential symptom. This portion of the nerve has already crossed. However, if there is compression at the top of the brainstem where CN IV emerges towards the front (ventral) of the brainstem, the dysfunction will be ipsilateral. If the nucleus of the RIGHT CN IV is damaged, downward rotation of the LEFT eye is impaired. It is also the only CN that has contralateral function. At a quick glance, CN IV appears to originate from the top of the brainstem, lateral to CN III. In fact, CN IV is the only CN that originates from the back of the brainstem (dorsal). Thus, both eyes gaze horizontally toward the RIGHT. The stimulus is then carries to the RIGHT CN VI, which activates the LEFT CN III. Turning the head toward the RIGHT stimulates the RIGHT CN VIII (vestibular) involuntarily. Horizontal gaze can be initiated voluntarily (intentionally) or involuntarily. Small or pinpoint pupils may also be present with a lesion in the pons (loss of sympathetic control of the pupil is located in the pons). Inability to move either eye horizontally may indicate injury in the region of the pons or lower brainstem. When the Right CN VI is stimulated, it sends a stimulus up the medial lateral fasciculus to activate the LEFT CN III. The RIGHT EYE rotates horizontally toward the RIGHT temple (Right CN VI) and the LEFT EYE rotates horizontally toward the RIGHT temple (CN III), producing rightward horizontal gaze. CN VI is also ipsilateral (controls the ability to rotate the eye horizontally toward the temple on the same side). Each CN III activates the medial rectus, superior rectus, inferior rectus and inferior oblique muscles to cause orbital rotation on the same side of the CN III nucleus (ipsilateral). The ability to move the eye in all other directions is controlled by CN III. Cranial Nerve IV (Trochlear) controls downward eye movement toward the nose, and Cranial Nerve VI (Abducens) controls horizontal eye movement toward the temple. Eye Movement The 3rd cranial nerve also controls eye muscle movement. The parasympathetic response of the pupil (or "return to normal") is constriction. Pupil Constriction Each one of the two 3rd cranial nerves controls the parasympathetic response of the pupil on the same side (ipsilateral). They control eye muscles on the same side of the body (ipsilateral). They are Lower Motor Neurons (LMN) (second order neurons). The 3rd cranial nerves are pure motor nerves. The pair of 3rd cranial nerves (oculomotor nerves) are located at the top of the brainstem - one to the right and one to the left. 'This is only really practical if your books are more for display purposes than reading,' says Melanie Lissack. Channel a vintage displayĪnother idea for color coordinated books is to turn the books around so that the page edges are visible rather than the spines. True, it doesn't follow Rayman's decree about showcasing your own story, but doesn't it look oh-so-pretty? 3. They’re actually organised in numerical order of publication.' What to do instead of a rainbow book shelf 1. It's a refreshing take on decorating bookshelves, where your own spirit and life comes through to the fore. The result is a bookcase that tells stories, rather than just looks aesthetically pleasing, and that's a far more meaningful way to live.' 'You might end up putting books together on a similar subject, or that remind you of a particular moment. Luger's work on the Borchardt design evolved into the Luger pistol, which was first patented in 1898 and chambered in 7.65×21mm Parabellum. Shortening the length of the cartridge case used in the Borchardt pistol allowed Luger to improve the design of the toggle lock and to incorporate a smaller, angled grip. The cartridge was derived from an earlier round designed by Luger ( 7.65×21mm Parabellum), which itself was derived from a cartridge used in the Borchardt C-93 pistol ( 7.65×25mm Borchardt). The cartridge was developed by Austrian firearm designer Georg Luger in 1901. Ī 2007 US survey concluded that "about 60 percent of the firearms in use by police are 9mm " and credited 9×19mm Parabellum pistol sales with making semiautomatic pistols more popular than revolvers. Since the cartridge was designed for the Luger semi-automatic pistol, it has been given the designation of 9mm Luger by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI) and the Commission internationale permanente pour l'épreuve des armes à feu portatives (CIP). Originally designed by Austrian firearm designer Georg Luger in 1901, it is widely considered the most popular handgun and submachine gun cartridge due to its low cost and extensive availability. The 9×19mm Parabellum (also known as 9mm Parabellum or 9mm Luger or simply 9mm) is a rimless, tapered firearms cartridge.
